Overview
This CPD presentation covers several characteristics and considerations for Interior acoustics, focusing on the behaviour of sound, the importance of acoustics, different material types and their acoustic effects.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the difference between sound absorption and sound reduction.
- Understand the definition of flaking paths and how they effect acoustics in interior applications.
- Acquire a clear understanding as to how acoustic products are tested.
National Standard of Competency for Architects
- PC28 (Building sciences & technology): This CPD builds foundational knowledge of acoustic behaviour and performance, distinguishing sound absorption from sound reduction and explaining how acoustic performance is tested and measured.
- PC33 (Integrated environmental systems – including acoustics): It supports integration of acoustic comfort as a core environmental design consideration within interior environments, including managing flanking paths and their impact on overall acoustic outcomes.
- PC39 (Integration of materials/structure/construction systems): It links acoustic performance to construction approach and detailing, improving understanding of how junctions, penetrations and system selections contribute to real-world acoustic performance.
