The Garage Door – A Considered Architectural Element

This presentation invites architects to re-evaluate the garage door as a considered architectural element rather than a functional afterthought, unlocking design opportunities comparable to those achieved through glazing and façade selection. It examines the full spectrum of bespoke garage door solutions and demonstrates how they can be seamlessly integrated into building design from the outset.
The session also addresses key specification considerations, including available materials and finishes, and explores the technical detailing required at the interface between the garage door system and the surrounding structure. The presentation concludes with a series of built examples, providing inspiration and illustrating the design potential that can be realised when bespoke garage doors are employed in place of standard solutions.
